Phil and john tate leadershpi question(UNFINISHED)

John Kelly presents john tate and Phil as leaders in DNA in different ways with john tate using threats and intimidation to gain leadership where as phil gaining leadership through the respect others have for him.

Kelly presents John tate as someone who preys on those weaker than him to get power such as brian however does not go much further than that as he is defied by Richard and he is also scared of Phil this is shown in the stage direction “John Tate begins to walk towards Brian, Mark and Jan enter with Leah and Phil Phil drinking a coke. John tate steps back” this uses stage direction to show power as John Tate uses verbal threats to gain authority and he does not challenge Phil and so Kelly uses stage direction to show that John Tate himself thinks he is inferior to Phil Kelly also shows that Phil is a better leader than John because John goes mad later in the play showing that John Tate could not handle the pressure from the murder which contrasts to his actions, as well as this John Tate is the only one to exclude himself from the others even Brian the one who is presented as the weakest in the play handles the death better than John Tate making the reader feel that really John Tate is the weakest in the group.

Phil is presented as the true leader in the play by Kelly as everyone respects him and when he speaks everyone listens this is shown through stage directions such as “Phil puts down his coke” these stage directions make the reader become aware as usually Phil does something important which makes the reader fell as if Phil is the leader, another point is that
